Week 1

Day 1

In the last semester of our course, Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (Level 7) in Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology includes a major project in which either I can implement a new design or I can do a research project on a recent topic. On the first day, we got an introduction to the importance and procedures of this project from our Project Supervisor.

For the first week, my task was to choose whether I am doing the implementation or research project.

 

Day 2

On day 2, I have decided to go ahead with the research project as our time for this project was reduced to 10 weeks and I got a feel like the implementation could not be completed within that time frame. So I searched for the recent technologies and emerging concepts in IT and Networking.

Edge computing hit my thoughts and as David (Project Supervisor) instructed, I had to choose a specific area. I continued surfing and explored various areas of application. I finalized the oil and gas industries where the edge computing can make a great difference. But on discussing with David made me clear that the topic selected was not so vast and collecting information can be very difficult. Then I skipped into healthcare sector and after research, I came up with the topic “mHealth in India: Utilizing the Big Data to determine healthcare needs of communities“
